Grise Fiord: An Investigation of TP312 Certification
Grise Fiord is a remote coastal Inuit community in Canada’s arctic served by a 500m gravel runway with hazardous terrain beyond both ends. This case study investigates the extent to which terrain prevents the airport from being certified, if new Canadian aerodrome standards could aid in certification, and what runway alignment (if any) may allow for future certification.

Presenter: andrew macdonald, b.comm manager, aviation planning, HM AERO

Over the past 13 years, Andrew has participated in planning, design, and forecasting activities; Instrument Flight Procedure design; airport master plans and commercial plans; apron and gate designs, obstacles assessments, and specialized studies at numerous airports throughout Canada including Toronto Pearson, Vancouver, Montreal Trudeau, Halifax Stanfield, and Iqaluit. Andrew is a Commerce graduate of the University of Guelph, Aviation Management graduate of Georgian College, and graduate of the Pennsylvania State University post baccalaureate certificate program in Geographic Information Systems (GIS).

Redesign of Obstacle Limitation Surface
Introduction of Kati's two phase and two iteration methodology as approach to redesign obstacle Limitation surfaces with regard to Performance based Navigation. This modular surface concept considers current and future aerodrome and navigation infrastructure and serves an adequate level of safety without under or overestimating collision risks within the aerodrome vicinity. The research is independent and parallel to the work of the ICAO OLS task force but showed comparable results, already.

Presenter: KATi ahnert, associate research scientist, dresden university

Picture
Kati studied aerospace engineering at Technical University Berlin and finished her diploma degree in 2011. As student she already started to work for an aviation consulting company called GfL mbH (Gesellschaft für Luftverkehrsforschung). There she had numerous projects considering Obstacle Limitation Surfaces for German aerodromes. After the end of her studies she started working as research associate at the Technische Universität Dresden additionally to the job  at the GfL mbH. At TU Dresden she is involved in research projects considering safety aspects within TMA, navigation accuracy and redesign of obstacle limitation surfaces. Next to research she is teaching students in lectures like air traffic control, navigation and cockpit technologies.
